About the artist
Bethany Davis is a multidisciplinary artist from Perth, Scotland, currently studying Art and Contemporary Practice at the University of the Highlands and Islands. Working across photography, moving image, installation, and painting, her practice explores themes of place, memory, identity, and human connection. Inspired by personal archives, local landscapes, and intangible cultural heritage, she investigates how everyday acts of communication, storytelling, and shared experience shape our sense of belonging. Through participatory and site-responsive work, she creates spaces for reflection that invite audiences to reconnect with people, places, and the memories that bind them.
About the work
From the artist:
‘Greetings from… is an invitation to pause, remember, and reach across distance. Inspired by my practice, which explores place, memory, and connection, the work invites visitors to write a postcard to someone they miss, have lost touch with, or wish they could speak to again.
I wanted to create a series of postcards centred on the landscapes of Kirriemuir that encourage people to remain present in the place that they are in while reconnecting with loved ones who are elsewhere. For me, postcards hold a significance that digital messages rarely do. They carry the trace of a journey, becoming keepsakes that preserve not only words but a place, a moment, and the feeling of receiving them.
Set within a repurposed phone box, the installation reimagines a familiar site of communication as a quiet space for reflection. Visitors are encouraged to write a brief note on the back of a postcard. Visitors then have the option to take or leave their postcard behind. The work gradually becomes a shared archive of fleeting thoughts, memories, and connections that briefly meet in Kirriemuir.’
This work invites reflection on memory, place, and connection. Some visitors may choose to write to people who are absent or no longer here. If this raises difficult feelings, support is available at:
